It was on my mind for years until I got very very sick and I had to decide to learn to paint or give up on the dream.

It really was in the deciding to learn to paint that sealed the deal for me.  Then I had to figure out the how.  As the saying goes, “When the student is ready the teacher appears”.  I was definitely more than ready but it was hard to find a teacher.

I did finally find a teacher in Jerry Yarnell who had a weeklong stint in Bardstown, KY.  I took a one day class on color theory and a two day class on painting a painting.  I had to get a hotel, meals, supplies and pay for the classes.  I was all in for around $1500.  I came home with what I thought was a beautiful painting and the knowledge that I could do it.

That’s when the real learning took place.  I was on fire learning because I was sick and the Drs. hadn’t been too promising for a long term prognosis.     I painted every day for several hours a day and as my health started to improve my daily painting sessions became longer and longer.
