Regional Artist and Folk Hero
Recently I had the distinct honor of teaching a group of local children of Vevay, Indiana to paint in the style of regional artist Ann Farnsley.
Ann was a fellow exhibitor with me at the Community Art Center in Vevay and her art was eclectic, whimsical and thought provoking.
I didn’t know Ann for very long before she became ill and recently passed away, but she was a fun loving spirit who walked to her own drum. A woman after my own heart.
The Community Art Center was the venue for a recent celebration of the life and art of Ann in conjunction with the Carnegie Center for Art and History and the Ogle Foundation. I taught a class as part of that celebration to children of Vevay sponsored by the Ogle Foundation.
Ann’s style and mine are very different but she was a color worshipper as am I so in that department we are very much alike. The children ranged in ages from 4 – 12 and all seemed to have a great time learning about Ann and emulating her work.
The title of the recent show was “Over the Moon: The Eclectic Art of Ann Farnsley, and was produced along with a book of the same name by art director John Begley. Books are still available at the Community Art Center in Vevay. Art lovers and historians alike will enjoy the information and the exhibition list with photographs of Ann’s work.
I hope you have a wonderful spirit filled day and let’s paint together real soon.
