What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do!
Recently in the Beginner’s Painting Club the monthly painting was a fall scene with a fence post, a pumpkin and a raven or a crow. All went well but in the end I wasn’t happy with my bird. Mine looked too soft like it had downy feathers as if it were a baby. But the method was correct and that’s always my goal is to teach a method so my students can then turn that knowledge into their own artwork,
I put the painting aside and I knew I would come back to it at some point but for now it was relegated to a stack of paintings that needed to be varnished, backed with brown paper or re-visited in some other way.
Then one night while scrolling through YouTube, a video from Russel Brand, an avant garde political commentator showed up on my home page. I hadn’t seen him forever and while I don’t like his language I like the way his mind works. He’s British and his dress is fairly unconventional but his view point is always interesting. I have to turn him off when he starts dropping F bombs and swearing like crazy, but he is always thought provoking.
Back to scrolling. In Russell’s videos his intro always has a crow that is just as wild looking as Russell is and as he flashed on the screen for the second or so he was on there, I realized what my bird needed. My crow was too nice and polite, too prim and proper. You’ll need to watch the video for the rest of the story.
.The Beginner’s Painting Club is a monthly membership where beginning painters receive new instruction designed to teach art fundamentals, how to use those fundamentals in micro lessons, and then put all the pieces together in a beginner to intermediate level painting. It comes with a private Facebook group where I go live on Monday mornings with more instruction or motivation and generally having fun. If that sounds like something that could help you move the needle on your own artwork, click that big beautiful button and get on the wait list for information about the next time it opens.
Click HERE to see the irreverent Russell Brand but you have been warned about the language thing and the crazy crow thing.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by today. I know you have a million things to do so I really appreciate the time we spent together today.
Have a great day and let’s paint together real soon.
