We Love To Play In The Paint
Not every piece of artwork needs to be a serious masterpiece. Every once in a while we just need to have some fun and play in the paint. That’s exactly what’s happening with this Jack O’Lantern.
I’ll walk you through exactly how this fun painting was completed. In fact, the entire month of October we are going to be playing in the paint. Nothing but fun and playing in the paint.
Some of the things you learn by painting this Jack O’Lantern are:
- Creating depth in sky and grass
- Creating form with values
- Highlights
- Creating depth on the pumpkin with values
- Various pressure on the brush – light in the eyes
- What different brushes do
- Color theory
Even in a fun painting like this, there is still a lot that can be learned. We don’t have to be so serious all the time about learning to paint. There should be fun. Lots of fun.
Is it a great work of art. No. But it was fun and we learned a lot and had a chance to practice. You can use what we learned here to make your Halloween decor, as gifts for others, or take your craft work to another level.
Yes, I realized later I hadn’t finished the nose. But that’s OK. I can always add it. I hope you take what you learned doing this painting and make it your own. Change he shape of the pumpkin, add a pumpkin, change the color of the pumpkin, paint it on a table or a porch. Make it your own. Have fun.
