And Tutorial

As an artist I’m always looking for new ways to up my game and I hope the Micron Pigma pen product review and tutorial is helpful to you.

I didn’t draw for the first seven years I painted, but then I decided I needed to improve my art by improving my drawing.  I still try to improve my art through drawing and I recently purchased these Micron Pigma pens from Dick Blick Art.  In this video I give the Micron Pigma pens a review and I also give a tutorial on drawing a tree.

I found that I could achieve lots of variation for depth in darkness through using different types of strokes, such as cross hatching and scumbling.  Those techniques are demonstrated in the video.

I continued to work on this drawing after the tutorial and continued to learn how the pen actually works.

The Micron Pigma pen I purchased was a 01, which is a very fine point.  One of the reasons I purchased it was because it says it is water resistant.  I haven’t tested that part yet, but I’ll let you now how it works out.

All art starts with an idea and then usually a drawing or a sketch.  To get better art it’s imperative to improve our drawing and or sketching.  My art form of choice is painting, but my painting gets better if I understand the subject better by drawing it.  These Micron Pigma pens are another tool in the toolbelt for that.

Improving art is a lifelong endeavor and for me improving my drawing led.  directly to improving my painting.

It forces us to see things better and with more detail.  As you see better your art gets better.  As you notice the highlights and shadows of a subject and work to replicate them your art can’t help but improve.

Do you NEED these pens to improve your drawing?  Probably not, but they are interesting to use and if you only have one size it also forces you to get creative to achieve depth.  Creativity begets more creativity.  So give it a try.

If you want to get started on improving your art, I have a fabulous bundle of information for you.  Get your FREE Printable Beginning Artist Bundle HERE.  It has a page to help you plan your painting intentions for 2024.  It also has 5 Secrets Every Beginning Artist Should Know and finally I included the ebook on Creating and Understanding Perspective.  Print it out and put it wherever you keep your art notes to refer to often.

P.S.  Update on the skin cancer on my face.  Yeah, that big ugly scar on my right cheek.  The Dr. said he got it all in both places.  The one on my cheek is healing very well.   The one on the side of my head is healing much slower, but it’s healing.  Take care of your skin.  Wear your sunscreen and get yearly check ups.
