Lies You Think Are TRUE About Creating Art

Do NOT Go There!

Lies you think are true about creating art

Lies You Think Are True About Creating Art

Lies, sweet little lies!  Are there lies you think are true about creating art?  Are you telling yourself some of these to keep from creating your art?

I wonder why it is so easy to tell ourselves negative lies that stop us and so hard to express gratitude and truths that will propel us into the creative world we so desperately want to enter.  Something to think about.

I’m in the midst of creating a playlist about 3 lies (+ a 4th bonus lie) we tell ourselves that keep us out of the creating art game.

The main video is under 5 minutes and the others are under a minute so the time you invest learning about these lies will be minimal and well worth it.  I say that because we cannot spend too much time building ourselves up and increasing our creativity.  You’ll be using that creativity in all aspects of your life, if not creating art.

In a nutshell what are these lies?

  • I don’t have talent
  • I must be inspired to create art.
  • I’m not motivated to create art.

In my videos I dispel every single one of these lies and what mindset is needed to defeat the lies.  Yes!  It’s a head game.  Learning anything is a head game.  Henry Ford said “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right”.

Learning to paint is no different than learning to shoot hoops, fish, play golf or play the guitar.  They are all skills that are learned over time and with purposeful practice.

No one thinks someone comes to earth with fishing talent, although I’m sure there are some who possess such talent.  Why then should we think people come here with artistic talent.  Is it because fishing is more common that lots of people do and creating art is seen as something mysterious that not many people do?

Anybody can drop a line in the water and sometimes get lucky and catch a fish, but there are those that eat, sleep and drink fishing.  They study it.  They practice it.  They schedule time to do it.  And then they do it.  And often come home with nothing and other times they come home with a boatload.

The very same thing can be said of creating art.  There are those that think about creating art all the time, even when they should be doing something else.  They study it.  They practice it.  They schedule time to actually do it and then they do just that.  They create art.  Sometimes they like it but more often than not, especially in the beginning they don’t.  And that’s OK.  But, they keep on doing it.  Getting better at it all the while.

Fishing is not so different from creating art.  Now get out there an drop a line or pick up a brush, whichever you prefer.  I don’t know about you, but I prefer fishing on a blanket with a book.  Hehe!
