Stop Painting: Start Practicing
This Changes EVERYTHING
Hey Painter Nation, do you stare at a blank canvas wanting to paint but not knowing what to paint. Let’s tweak that thought. You’re allowed to practice painting without making a finished painting. That’s right. Stop painting and start practicing.
What are you talking about Sharon? Let me explain. This weeks video explains 3 ways beginners can practice and improve their art without actually completing a painting. Watch the video below.
Pressure On The Brush
Some of the primary things beginners struggle with are in this video. Understanding how pressure on the brush can make or break a painting is critical. Practicing and experimenting with your brushes may seem silly or a waste of time, but actually you’re creating muscle memory that you will use in every painting in the future. Follow the instructions beginning at the 1 minute mark in the video.
Mixing Greens
Green is in just about every painting and mixing it can be a real nightmare. In the video you’ll learn how to mix green and how to learn while you’re mixing. I suggest you take out all your blues, black and yellows and beginning at the 5:30 minute mark in the video you’ll learn several ways to practice mixing green.
Understanding Values
To me, VALUES are the most important skill to learn. If your painting is off 95% of the time it’s in the values. You practice painting without making a finished painting by learning about values and putting them to use. In the video, beginning at the 13:7 minute mark you’ll learn about values and see examples of how to practice values.
This video could be the most helpful video for beginners I’ve ever put out and I hope you take advantage of it. Click HERE to watch it if you haven’t already.
Improving your art isn’t all about painting 100 paintings. First you need to learn some things that can seriously cut your learning curve in half. You’ll thank me for letting you in on the secret of how to practice painting without making a finished painting.
Let’s paint together soon.
