How Does That Work?
Hey Painter Nation!
White can be tricky to use. If used by itself, it is chalky and flat. So, if you’re trying to paint something white, you have to start with another color underneath it. I usually start with a gray that I make mixing blue and orange. Then I add some white to get it lighter.
In this video you’ll learn the process I use to paint white daisies.
I hope that made sense. It doesn’t really matter what white thing you’re painting, if you paint it white it will stick out like a sore thumb and it will be chalky and flat. Let’s say you were painting an apron on a clothes line. I would still make the first pass on the apron with a light gray and then build it up with lighter shades of that color until I had what I wanted. It would also be much easier to give the apron movement and form.
I hope you’ve subscribed to my YouTube channel because on Friday I’ll be uploading a short, less than a minute, where I’ll paint the daisy using lavender as the underpainting. To me it makes all the difference in the world.
