Let’s Mix Paint
If your paintings have a flat look, how you mix your paint could b the problem.
I’ve taught hundreds of beginning artists and one of the main problems I see is over mixing paint. I always tell my students, “you’re not mixing cake batter”. You don’t keep mixing. If you mix two colors, you mix a few strokes and then “STOP”.

I don’t use paint right out of the tube. I always mix it with something and the purpose of that mixing is to give the painting depth and interest. I’m not necessarily trying to make a new color, although sometimes I am. But I am trying to create depth and values and that is much easier with paint that isn’t over mixed.
