Golden Open Acrylic Paint – Product Review

Am I lovin it or leavin it?

Golden Open Product review

Golden Open Acrylics Product Review

I bought this set several months ago in order to do this product review, but things got pretty hectic with my arm surgery and my eye going crazy, so here it is.  I finally got it made.

As most everyone knows, acrylic paint dries very quickly.  Open means it stays wet longer so you can blend easier and it doesn’t dry up before you go onto the next part of the painting.

In researching this video I watched a number of other videos on the subject to get their take and to see how I could do mine differently.  I was shocked at the variations of opinions about the paint.  One artist said she really wanted to like the paint but she really did hate it.  Another artist gushed over it.  I had a hard time reconciling those two so of course I had to watch more videos.

I really had no idea what to expect when I opened up the box of paints and actually started using them.  I was very surprised with the results.

Things I Liked

  • They went on smooth, almost like butter
  • I loved the colors
  • I didn’t struggle mixing to make the brown (not included in the set)
  • The blending was wonderful
  • They stayed open a good long time.
  • As they dried they didn’t fade or dull as much as regular acrylics

Things I Didn’t Like

  • I don’t really have anything to say
  • I didn’t really want to learn a new type of paint but it worked fine.

I don’t usually use medium and this set came with a thinner/medium and the instructions say not to use water.  That was new for me.
