Going Deeper Into a Landscape Painting

The first class of it's kind is in the books.

Going deep into the landscape

Brave Women Stepped Up And Painted

I know how difficult it is to decide to learn something new and these two ladies completely knocked it out of the park as they did just that.  You should have seen them paint.  In fact, you should have joined us.

Brenda and Rita had taken a much shorter class from me before and they decided they wanted to go deeper into learning how to paint.  So we decided to paint a 16″ x 20″ landscape with much more detail than I could possibly pack in into a 2 hour class.  So we went for 2 – 2hour classes.  And it was amazing.

They both have painting experience but one was in decorative painting, which is a very different animal than fine art painting and she hasn’t painted anything in years and the other painted years ago in a different medium.  It really was like starting completely over for both of them.  And yet, they dug right in, gave it their all and I think each went home with great paintings.

Setting your mind to doing something is more than half the battle I think.  They wanted to do it.  They approached me with the idea.  We made a plan and then we all stuck to it.  That’s exactly how you achieve any goal.

These ladies and I are all approximately the same age and I so admire them for wanting to learn this and then putting in the work.  It’s one thing to want to do it, but it’s a whole different ballgame when you actually put in the work and do it.  It’s a beautiful sight.

They each had very different styles and ideas of how they wanted their painting to turn out, and I believe they each had different aha moments as they learned how to paint with acrylics.  I love seeing the light come on in someone as they start to get “it” which is the whole reason I teach.

I couldn’t have been more thrilled with their work and I think they were also.

Things we learned:

  1.  Creating perspective in the sky, the grass, the road and the fence
  2. How to mix paint for values
  3. Understanding color theory
  4. What different brushes do.
  5. Understanding highlights and shadows
  6. How to make smoke
  7. How to get perspective on the building

And that is just some of the things we learned.  If you want to move your art journey forward, I hope you’ll join us next time.  Stay tuned on this blog and follow me on Facebook.

I post all future classes on that Facebook page.
