Palette Knife Background
Last week I introduced palette knives and a few things you can do with them. Today you’ll learn how to get a background on using a palette knife for a simple landscape.
Using a palette knife really opens up your opportunity to play in the paint. They are a completely different animal than brushes and your results will also be completely different.
You will need to literally play in the paint using a support you don’t care about, but I recommend you use water color paper taped to a board as you learn how to use your knives and what they can do. Then you can move on to a support of canvas or a canvas panel.
In this video I’m painting on a 7″ x 5″ canvas panel. Colors I use are:
- Titanium white
- Hansa yellow
- Hookers green
- Ultramarine blue
- Dioxazine purple
- Turquoise deep
