Channeling Van Gogh was Fun!
We were also pretty bold think we could paint one of the most famous paintings ever, but we plunged ahead, with dare I say it, with boldness.
I tried to lighten the mood by painting in my Van Gogh like straw hat and giving out lots of bits of information about Van Gogh and the tragic life he led.
Van Gogh was named after a brother who died the year before he was born. Vincent is a family name and there were several in his family. Vincent came from a family of preachers and art dealers and Van Gogh did both in his early adult years. His mental illness came on in his late teen years and culminated in his committing suicide at the age of 37.
It is amazing the amount of work Van Gogh produced in his short life. He took every day as a learning and painting experience. As a preacher he lived among the poorest of the poor even sleeping on the floor in a thin shirt because he felt closer to those he preached to.
While not financially successful with his art, Van Gogh continued painting and crafting his own style right up until the last day of his life.
It was a fun evening and we thank Eagle Creek Vineyard for sponsoring these painting parties. Check out their offerings of locally grown wines HERE. Visit their page and look under news for future classes. Our next class will be August 10, 6 p.m. and we’ll be painting a fun jar with lightning bugs. Classes need to be pre-paid in advance of the day of the class and includes all supplies for the class. A variety of wines are available for purchase.
