Beginners – Don’t buy art supplies! Are you crazy Sharon? If you’ve ever stood in the art supply aisle wondering what to buy—or worse, walked out with a cart full of supplies you didn’t actually need—this post is for you. (I did that.)
When you’re just getting started with acrylic painting, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. There are shelves full of brushes, tubes of paint in every shade imaginable, canvases in a dozen sizes, and tools you’re not even sure how to use. And the truth is, practically none of it is necessary—especially in the beginning.
That’s why I created my latest video: “Beginner Painters – Don’t Buy Supplies UNTIL YOU Watch This!” In less than 8 minutes, I walk you through what you actually need to begin painting with confidence. Whether you’re starting from scratch or trying to figure out what’s worth your money, this guide will save you time, frustration, and dollars.
🖌 Here’s what we cover in the video:
- What paints give you the best value
- What brushes you need and why
- What you should paint on
- A few extras that are nice—but not essential—when you’re first starting out
Plus, I’m sharing a free printable supply guide you can keep on hand for your next trip to the art store (no email required!). You’ll find the link in the video description.
I’ve taught hundreds of beginners learn to paint with acrylics, and I personally know that feeling of not knowing what I needed when I started painting over 25 years ago. I wish I’d known this then and I would have saved a boatload of money buying things I did not need. Simplifying your supply list can actually speed up your progress. It keeps you focused on practicing the skills that matter most.
Painting is a skill and you can learn a skill, you can practice a skill and you can improve one a skill. It’s really not about having the most expensive tools.
💡 Ready to feel confident about your first (or next) supply purchase?
