One Mistake Ruining
Your Acrylic Painting
Could there be one mistake ruining your acrylic painting? If you know me you might be thinking “Sharon’s talking about values”. But while I believe values are critical I also believe color temperature is critical as well.
In this weeks video I explain that ALL colors have a warm and a cool version and how to use them to improve your art.
You can get the Warm and Cool Color cheatsheet HERE. (If you’re on my email list I’ll be sending it to you so you don’t need to sign up for it.)
When creating depth the idea is the farther something is in the painting
- the cooler
- less detail
- smaller it is.
As you come forward in the painting things
- get warmer
- have more detail
- are larger.
If you are painting a landscape the green trees in the background are a cooler green and the trees in the midground are warmer and those in the foreground are the warmest in your painting. They are all green but the temperature of the greens change.
Do you need 37 different shades of green? Absolutely NOT! For cooler greens you can add blue or purple and for warmer greens you can add yellows and oranges. Just remember to add small amounts until you get the color you want.
In the video I explain exactly what makes a color warm or cool. Click HERE to watch the video. This can be a concept that takes a while to internalize in your artist mind so it might be a good idea to subscribe and then save this video to a playlist you make of videos to improve your art.
Thanks so much for being here today and I hope this is helpful. As always my goal is to help you move your art journey forward with confidence and that comes with knowledge and practice.
Let’s paint together soon,
Sharon
